02/03/05     FIRST SET OF LOCOMOTIVE WORKSPLATES CAST

A set of small worksplates for inside both cabs of the loco were collected yesterday, 1st March. These will be placed in the original site, one in each cab. Cast from gunmetal and measuring approximately 4"x3", they are as close a resemblance to the originals as possible. If anyone is interested, we also have a limited number of these for sale, please contact us for further information. All profits will go towards the continued preservation of the loco.

Preservation Days

The photographs below were taken at MC Metals in Glasgow whilst 26010 was there for asbestos removal. Other class mates present at the time included 26011, 26024 & 26038.

More photos below of 26010 which is currently at the Northampton & Lamport Railway. Repairs are required, particularly to the bodywork, prior to it returning to the Waverley Route. These repairs will be carried out by experts in the field, ensuring that when the locomotive returns to the Waverley Route it is in excellent condition.

26010 History & Technical details

Originally commissioned as D5310 in January 1959, it was sent new to 34B Hornsey for duties on Great Northern Lines suburban services from Kings Cross. However, it soon moved north to Scotland where it spent the rest of its working life.

D5310 was a member of the original "Pilot scheme" batch of 20 locomotives ordered from Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company of Smethwick. The locomotive is also one of only two preserved examples to retain the original style of bogies with transverse leaf springs. 26010 arrived at the Northampton & Lamport Railway on 28th January 1995 and was started for the first time on July 14th 1995, operating its first train in preservation on 10th October 1998.
