From the south / west: From the A7 (M6, Junction 44) follow signs for Canonbie & Newcastleton (B6357). After passing through Newcastleton take the left hand fork (B6399) at Sandholm (large embankment on your left - site of the old viaduct). Follow the B6399 past Hermitage and keep going for another 4 miles. After passing under the Golden Bridge (Br200) pull in at the heritage centre on the left around 400 yards further on. From the north: At Hawick (A7), find the southern end of the High Street, and take the cobbled road (B6399) signposted Newcastleton. Carry on along this road, and after around 7 miles you will pass Shankend Viaduct on your right. Keep going a further 4 miles, and pull in at the heritage centre on your right. From the east: From the A68/A69 follow signs for Bellingham & Kielder. At Bellingham take the road to Kielder and head towards the reservoir. At Kielder village follow the road through the village and cross the English/Scottish Border at Deadwater. At the T-junction (B6357, Saughtree) turn left, and follow signs for Steele Road. At Steele Road itself head under the old railway bridge (Br218). Follow this single track road round the south side of Arnton Fell and turn right at the next T-junction at Newlands, heading to Hermitage (B6399). Keep going for another 4 miles. After passing under the Golden Bridge (Br200) pull in at the heritage centre on the left around 400 yards further on.
